Brachychiton Rupestris - Narrow Leaved or Queensland Bottle Tree
Brachychiton Rupestris is a native to Queensland, Australia and is commonly known as the Queensland Bottle Tree due to its swollen bottle shaped trunk which in some specimens has been measured at 3.5 meters in diameter.
The Trunk is a dark grey bark, forming wrinkles and fissures when older, branching from the upper portion, it has long narrow leaves, 10 cm long and 2cm wide, dropping its leaves typically from September to December, and flowering from September to November in pannicles of male and female flowers on separate trees, with female flowers ripening to seed pods April/May.
Its unusual water storing trunk and drought tolerance, makes it a great addition to a succulent pachycaul collection!
Can grow to a heigh of around 10 to 20 meters.
